RASHROCK REVIEW OF DESERT MONKEY'S 'WATER DAMAGE'.

'As quoted on their official website, Desert Monkey makes music 'purely for the fun of it'. WIth their five track EP called 'Water Damage', the band gives us a look at how Desert Monkey is currently doing. I am delighted when I read that the band has lots of interesting influences, containing funky and groovy beats, a bit of blues and some indie drips.

When listening to the five tracks I get what I expect, funky and groovy rock with blues influences. The surprising intro gives me the impression of 'let the chaos begin' and Cal Smith* knows how to give the rhythm extra power with his vocals. The 'chaos' feeling doesn't make the song very catchy. The second track has a pop-rock, indie feeling with a rather original drum intro, nothing too special afterwards. The title track 'Water Damage' seems more controlled and more catchy. The instruments go along quite nicely which makes the track interesting. I especially love the guitar solos and bass beats, original and raw. The second two tracks are decent tracks as well. A bit more variation would be better, and the vocals weaken at times. Nonetheless, 'Water Damage' is a decent EP. If Desert Monkey keep improving like this they have a good future ahead of them.'
