'Desert
Monkey return after a rather impressive previous release of stoner rock
and Known to be cynics continues the good quality sounds from this young
five piece.
In the vein of old Soundgarden, Kyuss, yet a little more old school
rock rather than stoner or grunge with the solos going off on a bit
of a tangent and with a slightly more upbeat and bright mood. Two chills
out nicely with some interesting warbling sounds and effects, leading
into a big fuzzy groove. Water Damage is a highlight with the biggest
riff on the CD, as is closer Volume Phrasing with a stomping, slower
section complete with more soloing and nice atmospheres.
Another very professional sounding rock release from Desert Monkey,
who seem to be establishing themselves well.'

'Just
from the title, the name and the picture on the back of a band of five
men stood in a field, I expect either Kyuss drenched stoner rock or
psychedlic indie rock from Desert Monkey. "Made great by a breeze"
starts off with quite a big riff and a very Pearl Jam-esque sound and
mood in the music, with Brody, Led Zeppelin and early Soundgarden, with
more than a hint of Black Crowes in the vocals. This starting song,
the title track, rocks out well, and has some Corrosion of Conformity
similarities in the grooves, twangs and leads and is all round, a damn
good rock song.
In fact, Desert Monkey rock out the whole way through this EP. The songs
are solid, and purvey their mood and changes well. The excellently titled
"Terpsichorean" (meaning 'of, or relating to dancing') grooves
sweetly, and the almost drunken beginnings of the fantastic "Easylong"
pulls us right into this 'free your mind' messaged, chilled and funky
closer.
I think you might just like Desert Monkey!
Is it Summertime yet?'
