SKRATCH THE SURFACE REVIEW OF DESERT MONKEY'S 'MADE GREAT BY A BREEZE'.
"Hailing
from the Colchester area Desert Monkey are a funked up blues rock delight! This EP manages to be massively traditional but still sound fresh, and more so within the current climate of post hardcore/emo style bands spawning like lemmings, this EP sounds gloriously REfreshing despite drawing from influences that on paper should sound dated or stale. All four songs on here are catchy and potential singles, but if pushed for standout moments I’d say second number ‘Balance’ which creeps along on a laid back drawl of a verse before bubbling over into a soaring chorus and the energetic bounce of ‘Terpsichorean’ which comes across as a ballsier Jamiroquai or Jamiroquai if they’d smoked a whole shit load of skunk and just stayed jamming in the basement rather than assaulting the mainstream. Top stuff." ("Skratch The Surface" online review of Desert Monkey's EP November 2003) |
